An idea became a vision; a vision became a mission; and a mission brought Operation Beachhead to life. This life continues to grow through the support of people who wish to show their appreciation and thanks to our veterans.

October 16, 2015 ~ Opening Day
Operation Beachhead opened its sled hockey season on
October 16th, 2016 at the John J Piccolo Arena in Old Bridge, NJ. We welcomed the members from the James J. Peters
VA Medical Center in The Bronx, members from the Veteran’s Campus in
East Orange, along with the regulars from the Operation Beachhead Team, and a
large group of volunteers. Each year members of the FDNY (Fire Department of New York City) intramural hockey
dedicates their time and skill to come and assist the participants.
A large group
arrived and was ready to take to the ice on a beautiful fall day. Operation Beachhead
is fortunate to have enough sleds to accommodate everyone. Over the years, we have
received grants from the USA Hockey Association, The Dennis Zelinski, II
Memorial Fund, and a donation from the American Legion Post 168 in Red Bank. Due to the fact
that it is so early in the season, the Knights Kafe, was not opened to serve
their usual delicious fare. However, the town of Old Bridge generously accommodated
by catering breakfast and lunch from Giuseppe’s in Old Bridge, very tasty.
It was such a honor
for all the members when we learned that one of the players this day was a
World War II veteran and ninety-seven years old!
What a way to
start the winter sled hockey season!
