An idea became a vision; a vision became a mission; and a mission brought Operation Beachhead to life.
This life continues to grow through the support of people who wish to show their appreciation and thanks to our veterans.

Operation Beachhead

An idea became a vision; a vision became a mission;
and a mission brought Operation Beachhead to life.

Operation Beachhead Lyons VA Beach Day I ~ June 21, 2014

Operation Beachhead welcomed members of the Spinal Cord unit from the Lyons VA Hospital in Lyons NJ on June 21st at North Beach in Sea Girt, NJ.  Many volunteers came out to greet, assist, and show their gratitude to the visiting veterans.

In addition to the Operation Beachhead volunteers, were members of the St Rose Hockey Team from Belmar NJ, members of the NYFD (New York City Fire Department), therapy dogs, Norman and Wilson, from Therapy Dogs International, the Sea Girt lifeguards, Sea Girt staff, and the Sea Girt Beach Patrol, who helped move equipment.

Once the veterans and their families arrived,  the veterans were helped into wetsuits and then the fun began. Some members choose to use kayaks, while others were assisted in their first surfboard surfing experience.  Every participant was willing to engage in the new activities and trust in the volunteers for their enjoyment and safety. Some of the family members were also treated to a surfing lesson. They all "stormed the surf" and "established beachhead".

The Operation Beachhead Family surfers and adaptive surfers, Beth and Matt, were able to get some surfing time in before the veterans arrived.

After the beach activities, everyone shared a delicious lunch donated by Mossuto's Market in Wall Township, NJ.   Andrew Ricci provided a canvas and paint supplies for participants to add their own design to complete an abstract art painting, which has become a staple of each Operation Beachhead Day.

As always, smiles, cheers, and thanks to our veterans were the order of the day.
