Lyons VA Beach Day 2 ~ July 26, 2014

Operation Beachhead welcomed approximately ten members of the Lyons VA Hospital to the North Beach in Sea Girt. Many of the guests chose to use the kayaks for their first try in the ocean. However, as the day progressed the Operation Beachhead staff of surf instructors lead the visitors in surfing instruction. Several of the men where able to stand on the boards by the end of the day.

Operation Beachhead's adaptive surfers, Donnie, Beth, and Matty were able to get some surfing time in before the visitors arrived. Our newest member of the Operation Beachhead family, John, tried the surfboard this weekend with "awesome" success.

We were joined on the beach by two service dogs, Harpo and Holly who live with Gary Savoth.  They were a welcomed addition and they seemed very interested in the surfboards; maybe next time.  While some people were enjoying the surf,  others enjoyed a day relaxing on beach. Everyone had a chance to add their artistic impressions of the day on a canvas provided by Andrew Ricci.

After a brief period of rain, the visitors and Operation Beachhead members, shared a lunch provided by Operation Beachhead.
We thank the Borough of Sea Girt, Sea Girt Beach Staff, and the ever-watchful Sea Girt Lifeguards.
