An idea became a vision; a vision became a mission;
and a mission brought Operation Beachhead to life.

Operation Beachhead Beach Day ~ July 16, 2016

Operation Beachhead enjoyed the second beach outing for the summer  in Sea Girt, NJ. We experienced beautiful weather and waves. Active duty members from the Army National Guard Medical Command based in Sea Girt, joined us along with members of the Operation Beachhead team of regulars. Some of our regulars brought new friends and families along to experience a day in the surf.

The Operation Beachhead group of volunteers continues to grow. At the July 16th event members of Team Red, White and Blue along with both the St Rose High School and Manasquan High School Hockey Teams joined in to help participants in the water serving as either watermen or catchers. In addition to water volunteers the list of young volunteers continues to grow filling many positions as either designated hosts, processing waivers, and helping with the equipment.

Congressman Chris Smith visited Operation Beachhead on Saturday. Congressman Smith serves the 4th Congressional district in New Jersey and has worked tirelessly for Veterans. He served as chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and has worked on legislation to enhance the Homeless Veterans Comprehensive Assistance Act, which he authored. In 2015 Congressman Smith co sponsored the “Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act.” The act is named in the honor of the late Iraq and Afghanistan War veteran and suicide prevention advocate, Clay Hunt.

A full day of surfing and kayaking made everyone hungry, so it was time to gather and share lunch donated by Whole Foods in Wall Township. We thank Beach Manager, Jim Freda, Sea Girt Mayor, Ken Farrell, and the Sea Girt Police for making arrangements for Congressman Smith and all the help throughout the day. We thank the lifeguards for keeping Operation Beachhead safe and thanks to the beach staff for all their help with our equipment. We are grateful for all the volunteers and those who lent their equipment for the day. And on this day, we particularly thank those volunteers who rushed to move equipment from the beach when surprise afternoon storms blew in.

The next event, July 27th, Operation Beachhead is back on the ice at the Jersey Shore Arena in Wall Township. A beach event follows quickly on July 30th in Spring Lake. Please check the site calendar for times and locations.
