Operation Beachhead

An idea became a vision; a vision became a mission;
and a mission brought Operation Beachhead to life.

February Events

Operation Beachhead recently enjoyed two skating events within one week.

On Friday, February 16th,  the Operation Beachhead team shared the ice of Winding River Skating Rink in Toms River with the children from the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Toms River. While Operation Beachhead did not have permission to publish most of the children’s smiles, the team was able to experience their joy and excitement. A large number of staff from Children’s Specialized Hospital, arranged the event and the logistics involved and joined in the fun for the day.

The second event of the week was held at the John J Piccolo arena in Old Bridge on Wednesday, March 21st.  Operation Beachhead hosted James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, the veterans from the East Orange Veterans Campus, active duty Coast Guard troops stationed out of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, and the Operation Beachhead Team. The weather was unseasonably warm and we wondered if we should have had a “beach day”  instead of ice skating.

The sleds were ready for the team when we arrived, as always. The coffee and tea were waiting along with the warm breakfast sandwiches. After some time on the ice everyone relaxed for a delicious lunch prepared by the Knights Kafe.

Once again we thank Old Bridge Township for their hospitality.

Another successful week. We look forward to the next event at the John J Piccolo Arena scheduled for March 14th.
